Jeff’s Review:
Lately our drink of choice has been tequila. Whether it’s shooting it, sipping it straight, or in a margarita, it’s been hitting the spot. We’ve found a lot of great tequilas recently, but like most liquors, some are better for different occasions and recipes. I’m sure most of you are like us, and after drinking for a few hours, you really aren’t motivated enough to get up and make some intricate mixed drinks. We usually resort to cutting a few oranges or limes, and taking shots with some salt the rest of the night. Well now you don’t even have to do that. Hornitos Lime Shot has made our lazy drinking habits even easier.

By adding real lime juice and salt to a 100% agave tequila, you really don’t need anything but some shot glasses, and the acknowledgement that some bad decisions might take place later in the night. So that also means no more salt all over the counter, or the always sketchy drunk fruit cutting is needed. Just chill the Hornitos Lime Shot, pour, and shoot. It sounds too good to be true right? Well it is and it isn’t. By no means is it bad, but not as good as doing it the right way.

My first taste was at room temperature and it was a little sweet. The tequila flavor was almost nonexistent, but it did go down smooth. Next I tried it on ice and it was better, but the sweetness really starts building up. The lime flavor doesn’t quite have the citrus bite that a fresh cut lime does, and even though the website says they added salt, I think it was sugar instead.

Even though it’s a little sweet, it isn’t syrupy or too artificial at all. I started thinking about making a mixed drink for this review, but I don’t think there would be enough tequila or agave flavor to create a drink when using only this and a mixer. If I wasn’t doing the review, I could maybe use this with some other liquors and create some tasty drinks. I’m thinking this tequila in a long island, but without the sour mix, would turn out pretty good. But as the sticker on the bottle suggests, Hornitos Lime Shot was created for one thing and one thing only, Shots.

I don’t think I or anyone else would have problems shooting this all night, but don’t be surprised if people ask for a salted shot glass rim. So much for clean counter tops…
