Three Olives Marilyn Monroe Strawberry
70 Proof – Vodka
Approx. $16.99 750ml
I’ve yet to try any flavor of Three Olives that was bad, and tonight’s choice is no different. When I saw that they had a Marilyn Monroe inspired strawberry flavor, I figured it had to be the anniversary of her birthday, the day she died, or something like that, but I couldn’t find anything that stated why they had Marilyn Monroe inspired vodka. I even investigated to see if they just didn’t note it on their website. Neither her birthday (June 1st 1926), nor the date that she died (August 5th 1962) matched up. So it seems as if they just wanted to use her image to sell more vodka. However, I don’t think there’s many people going to the liquor store thinking “Ooh, Marilyn Monroe vodka? Sounds delicious!”, but it is eye catching with her iconic photo of the flying skirt on the label.
The first shot had a strong strawberry flavor with a cream taste that caught me by surprise. Mainly because nowhere on the label did it state or imply that it would have a cream taste to it. While it was unexpected, it was still good. Next, I combined it with fruit punch and it mixed in pretty well. It hid any signs of actual liquor, making it very easy to drink. The effects are easily noticed though. Not due to the strength of the drink, but simply because you’ll easily down a few cups before you even notice. The vodka was completely masked to the point that it didn’t even leave the slightest burn in the throat. So if you know anyone that’s more fun drunk, but can’t seem to stand the taste of alcohol, this would be the bottle to get them.
I think the bottle would have been much more accurately titled if they would have just called it a Strawberry Creamsicle. I’m still not sure what strawberries have to do with Marilyn Monroe or why the cream flavor that’s easily noticed isn’t mentioned on the bottle. If they wanted to have an iconic figure on a bottle, they should have come out with an Elvis banana flavored vodka. (For those of you who didn’t know, Elvis was known to eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches.) Who knows, maybe that’ll be this summer’s new flavor…
