Jeff’s Review:A few weeks ago I reviewed a locally made bottle, Sunshine Moonshine’s Sunrise. I enjoyed that bottle and mentioned that I wanted to try some of the other flavors, specifically, the English Toffee with a hint of Florida orange flavored Sunset.
Mainly because the combo sounded so random that I thought it had to be good. Well, I was wrong, very, very wrong.
I was expecting to experience something like a salty & sweet combo that worked so well together, but instead, I got to experience the not as popular perfume & citrus combo.
I want to point out that, I am a big fan of both English Toffee and orange, but It seems my hopes for this bottle were a little higher than all of my fellow drinking friends. When I told them what I was trying, not one of them thought it sounded good, like I did.
I’m currently drinking this, well trying to at least, as I’m writing this review but the first time we tried it was actually a few weeks ago.
We had some friends over on Christmas Eve and I decided it was a good time to give it a try. I opened the bottle and within seconds the kitchen smelled like someone sprayed an English Toffee air freshener. It didn’t smell bad, but it was just a little overwhelming. I went ahead and grabbed a shaker full of ice and chilled about a glass full, then poured out a few shots to everyone sitting near me. Everyone knows we are always trying new bottles for the site, so over the years they have become reluctant just to shoot whatever I put in front of them.
So I explained what it was and received some confused looks, “that doesn’t even sound good”, is the first comment I heard. Trying to ease everyone’s mind, I told them how surprisingly good Sunset was when I tried it a few weeks earlier. I don’t know if it worked or if everyone got sick of hearing me talk, but finally I started seeing the bottoms of some shot glasses. I joined in and before I put the glass back on the table, I made eye contact with my buddy across from me. The look on his face was as if I had just ruined Christmas and I’m sure my facial expression wasn’t far from his.
I want to point out that I have never tried drinking perfume but I’m guessing if you added some overly sweet flavored coffee creamer to a bottle of your finest designer perfume, you might like it better than this. And if for some reason you still wanted to know about the after taste and burn, well… both are bad especially the burn which seems to linger forever.
That night I ended up taking a few more shots of this with some different people just to see their reaction to it. As funny as it was to see people get instantly mad at me when they tried it, I couldn’t stomach any more that night.
The bottle wasn’t touched again until tonight and as much I didn’t want to, I had to give it a second try. I decided that mixing it with something was my only chance to make this drinkable. I went with orange soda and after a few sips I was done, I don’t think this bottle can be saved. The weird flavor combo doesn’t seem to play well with others.
Sunshine Moonshine makes two more flavors, High Noon, a cinnamon flavor, and Midnight, which is blueberry with a hint of anise. To be honest, I won’t go out of my way to try the other ones, but if I stumble across them, I might pick them up. Even if its just to see everyone face when I try to get them to taste it.
